High Performance Boards The yardstick for all high performance surfing is the world tour. It is this arena that continually pushes the envelope of surfboard design, materials and expands the boundaries that have previously been set. The performances of surfers on the World Tour, in perfect surf and waves of consequence are what redefine where the sport is heading, and the next direction in which surfboard design will travel.
Hybrid Boards A hybrid is, by definition, a combination of more than one style of board. The Bilt hybrids take elements of paddle, stability and wave catching characteristics from the standard longboard and combine them with the maneuverability and responsiveness of a modern-day shortboard.
Retro Boards Surfboard design is a continual evolution. The rapid pace of development of creative ideas in the 60's & 70's often meant that the designs of the era weren't fully explored, before the next ground-breaking idea was unearthed. Bilt is revisiting this period and exploring the full potential of these retro shapes, expanding on them and developing boards that rediscover the glide.
Mals & Longboards Bilt's longboard story comes direct from under the feet of Jason Ribbink. Jason's campaigns on the international front in the longboarding discipline have long been applauded, and it culminated in his second place in the Longboarding World Championships in 2001.
SUP's Stand Up Paddleboards, the original Hawaiian beach-boy boards, are experiencing a resurgence that is set to grow in leaps and bounds as more people realise the benefits of this discipline. The core appeal of a session on a SUP is that it offers a mid-strength, core workout, and thus a combination of working out while enjoying the fun of surfing.
Extreme Boards Bilt has developed an extensive range of extreme boards for those surfers who want to ride some of the biggest waves on the planet. The development of this range of boards has come from Jason's relentless attack on some of the world's biggest waves on various designs of extreme boards.
Composites Bilt are leading the charge into alternative surfboard materials by offering a wide range of composite surfboards. These boards are stronger and lighter, and are proving a great solution for surf-travellers needing a robust option to deal with the demanding challenges of 3rd world travel and their heavy breaks (like Indo). The Composite boards are also a suitable with beginners who tend to be a bit harsher on the boards
Eco Friendly Boards With the world tinkering on the edge of an environmental crisis and because surfers are so close to the ocean, and strive to preserve it for future generations; Bilt has been proactive in developing an eco-friendlier surfboard.

Bilt Newsletter - 05 September 2010

Welcome to the 5th Bilt newsletter of 2010. The South African contest season has come and gone and we had some great local results. There have been a few big swells hitting the Cape Town reefs, but not as much as usual, and we have had some positive results in the girls surfing side.

Davey Weare has been campaigning furiously the last few months, and also managed to fit in a surf trip to Reunion Island. Well-known for St Leu and other perfect waves that barrel over shallow coral in warm water, Davey and the assembled Zigzag crew scored some epic waves in Reunion. So good, in fact, that Davey scored the cover of the latest Zigzag Magazine in the process.

Sarah Baum has also been blasting in South Africa and on her various travels around the world. Sarah has been featured in various magazines and website as well. Sarah has been winning events this year, and in a recent interview, Barry Wolins, formerly of Quiksilver South Africa, mentioned that he was 'the most proud' of Sarah and her achievements. Zigzag did a fun interview with her in their latest issue, and asked her all the important questions. Sarah reckons that Elton is quite simply the best shaper out there.

Brad Weare is one of the team Bilt longboarders, and he recently made the SA team to compete at the ISA Surfing Games in Peru. Brad will be representing SA in the longboarding division and all of us at Bilt are very proud of Brad and his hard-working ethos. For a full interview with Dave and a gallery of his longboarding skills, check out the Bilt blog here. Brad is also quick to explain that much of his success comes from the great boards that Elton makes for him. Bilt Blog

After a great start to his season, Beyrick de Vries suffered an injury overseas and will be out of the water for a while. Beyrick is fit and tough and will bounce back even stronger from this little accident, but will be sitting out a few events in his quest for health, and we would like to wish him a speedy recovery.
